About Nguki Kula Green Labs
Nguki Kula Green Labs (pronounced “Newki Koola”) is an Australian-based, Indigenous-led company focused on creating sustainable solutions for a healthier planet.
Founded by Dr. Katrina Wruck, the company was born out of groundbreaking research conducted during her PhD at the Queensland University of Technology. The name Nguki Kula, meaning “Water Stone” in Kala Lagaw Ya, the language of the western Torres Strait Islands, reflects Dr. Katrina Wruck’s connection to Country.
Our flagship project is the world’s first reusable laundry system, which transforms low-value rocks into eco-friendly detergent. Using a revolutionary low-temperature process developed during Dr. Wruck’s PhD, this innovation reduces waste and conserves resources, making sustainable living more accessible to everyone.
We also aim to support remote Indigenous communities in improving health and well-being. By working together to increase access to free laundry facilities, we help address economic challenges linked to illnesses like rheumatic heart disease, while empowering communities to lead their own solutions.
